The greenfield mega container terminal will come up at Tuna-Tekra in the Indian state of Gujarat

Hindustan Ports Private Limited, the Indian arm of Dubai-based DP World, has won the contract to develop a Rs 42.43-billion ($519.13 million) mega container terminal for Deendayal Port Authority at Tuna-Tekra in the Gulf of Kutch, Gujarat.

“We have issued the letter of acceptance to DP World a couple of days ago,” The Indian Express newspaper reported, citing Sanjay Mehta, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority.

DP World will be responsible for the design, engineering, financing, procurement, implementation, commissioning, operation, management and maintenance of the project for a period of 30 years, the report said.

The project consists of constructing an off-shore berthing structure, which can handle three vessels simultaneously and have a capacity of 2.19 million TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent unit) per annum.

In October 2022, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the development of a container terminal at Tuna-Tekra on build, operate and transfer basis under PPP.

During the concession period, DP World will have the right to handle vessels up to 18-metre draught by deepening and widening the approach channel, berth pocket and turning circle, the newspaper said.
