Du has announced the availability of limited home internet and TV packages across the UAE, marking the beginning of full competition in the UAE’s telecoms space 11 years after the second operator first launched services.

The extension of du’s Home Plan to customers outside the operator’s traditional footprint of Dubai means that UAE customers will for the first time be able to choose from which operator to receive “triple play” services, which encompass fixed line, broadband and TV services.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked telecom service providers to start issuing 13-digit digit numbers for SIM based machine-to-machine (M2M) services, which will co-exist with 10-digit numbers.

The DoT had approved the scheme and a letter on it was sent to various departments on February 9, 2018.

M2M services are those where internet-enabled devices like point-of-sale machines or even latest refrigerators communicate through a SIM card. This decision will not have any effect on mobile phone SIMs.

Etisalat has been confirmed as the official telecoms partner of both Special Olympics IX MENA Games Abu Dhabi 2018 and Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.
